If you are keeping up with my blog adventures, you'll know that I recently spent some time in the ER. I had a lot of bad germies in my belly that a special doctor needed to get rid of. After a day or so of feeling and acting better, mommy and daddy thought it was OK to take a trip to see Grandma and the rest of daddy's family in Rochester, NY for the Christmas holiday (like we do every year). So, we packed the car up nice and tight with a whole bunch of stuff and hit the road on Monday December 22 (a few days later than we were supposed to since I had to go to the ER). I was doing a lot better by this time, and luckily mommy and daddy hadnt caught the germies that I had. The special ER doctor told them that it might happen 2 - 3 days later but maybe they would get lucky.
So around 10 am Monday morning, we hit the road. Only to find out that there is a road closure for 124 miles between PA and Rochester - EXACTLY Where we were headed (or so we thought). Except that the news report we heard was not very specific so mommy and daddy didnt know which way to drive. We didnt want to get stuck, but they thought we might not have a choice but to go the long way. So after many phone calls, we ultimately decided to go the long way (up the NY state thruway) to be safe. In the end, turns out that the road closure was from 2am - 10 am the NIGHT BEFORE on a road no where near PA, so by the time we would hit that area, it would presumably be open regardless. Well, the man on the radio didnt say any of that (Grandma looked it up online for us while we were driving and told us that) so we had no idea. About an hour into the trip, we stopped for gas so we could drive a long way without stopping. I was about to take a LONG nap so mommy and daddy wanted to do it while I was still awake (so they didnt disturb me). After the rest stop for gas and a diaper change, we got back on the Thruway. I was starving so mommy gave me a yogurt for lunch and man did I have to poop after that. Since I had so many germies in my belly the few days earlier, I hadnt eaten any dairy food, but the doctor said that yogurt would be OK, so mommy listened. Well, being strapped into a car seat when you have to poop is excrutiating, and I was letting them both know that. I started screaming as loud as I could until all the poop came out. Since I was sitting, it came out of my brand new fresh diaper, and it went all the way up my back to my neck and out the sides to my legs. Oh, and did I mention that the car had stopped moving about 10 minutes after leaving the rest stop because there was 10 miles of traffic due to a bad accident??? Right, so here I am, pooping my insides out, through my clothes, up to my neck, screaming at the top of my lungs cuz it hurt so bad, and daddy couldnt even move the car in any direction since we were stuck in traffic for 1.5 hrs!!!!!!!!!!!! I had no choice but to take that long nap after I was done pooping, without being changed.
Although we finally got out of that traffic an hour and half later, I was sleeping so they didnt want to wake me. They drove and drove, on what was the most boring road in history of roads, until I woke up (all smiles no doubt!). Once I woke up, we were in Syracuse. BUT, it doesnt end there. Now, I know I am little and have a lot of things to see and do, but I have already seen snow a few times before. Its that pretty white stuff that falls from the sky when its really cold out. But, my mommy hadnt ever seen snow like this!!! It was something daddy kept calling a white out?? Not sure what that means, but I could barely see out the window in front of us there was so much snow falling from the sky. By this time, we had been travelling for hours and wasnt even close to where we needed to be, and all I know is that I had pooped like you would not believe a while ago and needed a new diaper. So naturally, I needed a new diaper. Mommy said she needed one if my diapers too, since she almost pooped in her pants (since she was so nervous). After 45 minutes of the white out we finally found a rest area. Mommy AND Daddy took me to the bathroom, stripped off all my clothes and changed me from head to toe in the girls bathroom. I didnt like it much but it did feel better than all that poop. So we quickly got some food for daddy and got right back into that snowy mess as we still had a long way to go (an hour and half to be exact).
After 9 long hours (of a trip that usually takes 5) we got to Grandmas house. She was so excited to see me, but I was so tired from all the drama, and not to mention I was still recovering from the germies, I needed to go to sleep. We got settled in, and I hit my (travel) cribby.
The next day was fun, we played with all my fun toys, ate pancakes for breakfast and went shopping for the rest of the XMAS presents mommy didnt have a chance to buy at home since I was sick. While I napped in the stroller, mommy and daddy ate lunch at the mall, and then we went to see mommy and daddy's friends, Mark and Ellen for dinner. I had so much fun there since they have a doggy named Bella to play with and one of their son's (Andrew) was so much fun to play with (the other one wasnt home). He built me a tower out of my blocks over and over. They also got me a really cool tool set for XMAS that I just love!! We had a good time - and THEN, it happened. Daddy found the germies that I got rid of a few days earlier!!!! Not sure why he went and did that, but he started throwing up too! Oh my goodness, what a mess. We left as soon as he felt a little better, but before we got home to Grandmas, he had to stop the car and throw up again. Mommy put me to sleep that night, cuz daddy's germies lasted all night long. I'm not sure how this happened but those germies got back into my belly too and I woke up around midnight throwing up AGAIN!!!! A few times I threw up and I was so sad again. Daddy was sad. And GUESS WHAT happened next?? Grandma found the germies too!!!!!!!! Not sure how this all happened, but thankfully mommy didnt get the germies (she has been feeling really yucky in her belly but hasnt thrown up. How did she get so lucky? Maybe its my sister/brother in her belly that is protecting her?)
So, on Christmas Eve morning,we re-packed the car and started to head back to a healthier place - HOME in NJ! Daddy was still really really sad in his belly (and also because we would be missing all the XMAS festivities in Rochester), but he found the strength to make the trip home. I am so thankful he did because it was really not good for any of us to be in the same house sharing all those germies. We got home in 5 hours (like normal) since we went the 'right' way home. I was so happy to be there so I could sleep better in my cribby, daddy could get better in his own bed and we were close to mine and mommy's doctors JUST IN CASE. Mommy was really nervous that I 'relapsed' so quickly but I think it was the right place to be. Grandma gave me some of my presents to open on XMAS morning....it wasnt the same as being there with her, but it sure was nice of her to buy me stuff! (Thanks Grandma, and I hope your feeling better and getting rid of all those germies).
Christmas 2008 was not all it was cracked up to be. I am so sad that daddy didnt get to be in Rochester for the holiday (the first time EVER! Sorry Daddy!) and I'm even more sad that me, daddy and Grandma were so sickies. I hope those germies dont ever find any of us again :) Like daddy has been saying, the good thing about all this is that Christmas comes every year! To all of you that didnt have any germies, I hope Santa was good to you this year and you had fun with your family.
